Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit! I am Red Thunderbird Woman from the Crane Clan, the Turtle is my Helper; my given name is Tracie Louttit.
I identify as Iiyuu (Cree) and Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) with family ties in Eeyou Istchee (Eastmain, Quebec), Mushkegowuk (Moose Factory, Ontario and Fort Albany, Ontario) and Ketegaunseebee (Garden River First Nation). I am the daughter of Les Louttit & JoAnne (Pine) Louttit baa. My great-great grandfather is Chief Shingwaukonse of Ketegaunseebee on my mother's side, and on my father's side, I have ancestors from the Orkney Islands in Scotland, which is where my last name originates. My grandfather is Redfern Louttit (Agnes Gilpin), born in 1915, of Fort Albany, and his father, my great-grandfather is William Louttit (Margaret Wesley), son of John "Jack" Louttit. This is a beautiful and exciting journey that our family continues to experience as we begin to assemble our lineage and family tree which dates back to the 1700's and earlier. But more on that later! :)
Indigenous Wellness Wisdom is a blog site created from the journals that I've kept throughout the years of my personal healing journey and recovery from an alcohol addiction.
Why Indigenous Wellness Wisdom? This name came to me during one of my meditation sessions while I was reflecting on community and what this means.
I've come to understand that community means something different to everyone, whether it's a physical place, a common interest or a community practice such as a film community or wellness community. In my personal lived experience, community existed in a number of spaces and places with people from many backgrounds and life experiences. It was through my spiritual community where I began to remember who I was.
Gichi-aya'aag, the Great Beings, our Elders, say that the longest journey is from our head to our heart, and this was the basis of my recovery journey. They also say that the teachings we receive are not ours to keep, rather they belong to the people, and that we would know which ones to share and which ones are sacred.
Each encounter is a teaching, each person is a lesson, and it is up to us to find that teaching or lesson within that encounter.
Every day that passes, my heart is humbled that I am here to see another day.
Perhaps we may know one another personally, or perhaps you happened to come across this site...that is no coincidence, as we are right where we are meant to be in this glorious and mysterious Universe, not a second too early, not a second too late.
May we walk together in love, beauty & gratitude, now and always,
Your friend,
Tracie

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy that focuses on identifying and changing destructive emotions, thoughts and behaviours and essentially replacing them with positive ones to improve emotional and mental well being. Some techniques of CBT are journaling, relaxation exercises and affirmations.
In my early recovery from alcohol addiction, affirmations were the foundation in my CBT sessions. Here is simple exercise to try in the morning to set the tone for the day!
